If you see my last posting (so obviously a witty and clever
riposte) as "an admission of defeat" then your analytical skills
are as impaired as your intellectual and emotional development.

The second "not me" posting was a half reasonable attempt at
muddying the waters, but you have nowhere near the wit,
knowledge, skill or humour to match me.

Thanks for the invitation to "lash out" at you - it is
gratifying to see that you recognise the cleverness of my
previous, similar, invitations to you - and you therefore
adopted one of my methodologies. Imitation is a form of flattery!

Of course typed words by anyone, emotionally disturbed like
sa27/Marie or not, have no effect on an intelligent objective
person like myself - no, I lie, it does give amusement during
the long graveyard shift.

When sa27 does not respond to my taunts, I know what you are
doing...chewing gum! sa27 cannot do that and type at the same
time.

As for feeling free....you bet I do.

U.S. Fires 40 Missiles in Attempt to Kill Saddam Hussain

March 19: At about 9.45 PM Eastern Standard Time, CNN and
other U.S. TV
channels reported missile attacks on Baghdad. By 10.30 PM the
reports stated
clearly that at least 40 tomahawk missiles and at least one
bunker buster
bomb had hit Baghdad in an attempt to kill "targets of
opportunity." It was
evidently an attempt to kill the President of Iraq and four
other leaders.
-------------------------------------------------------------
At 12.30 A.M. EST, March 20, President Saddam Hussain came LIVE
on IRAQI TV
to urge the people to stand united and alert. His iron will was
evident, as he
spoke wearing military uniform and reading with the help of
glasses. His
call: "Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar." He condemned the U.S-Zionist
alliance and
hailed the people of Iraq and Palestine. He called on the people
to be ready
for Jihad. As he turned the pages of the statement he read, his
hand did not
shake or tremble.
--------------------------------------------
Obviously, THE ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT IN WHICH 40 MISSILES and a
BUNKER BUSTER
were used, has FAILED.

DISINFORMATION AS A WEAPON: Tariq Aziz Refutes Story

On March 19, an story was put out that the Iraqi Foreign
Minister Tariq
Aziz had defected. Tariq Aziz came on Iraqi TV to refute the
story. He said,
this kind of disinformation will probably continue. {If Iraqi TV
had been
knocked out, this kind of story would have been effective.}
[Christians like Aziz have great respect in Iraq. The U.S. media
do not
report on Christian community in Iraq so that demonization
propaganda against
Saddam may not be affected.]

ANOTHER STORY WAS PUT OUT THAT SAUDI ARABIA has asked Saddam to
take refuge
there. By the evening of March 19, Saudi Arabia had refuted the
story.

LATEST ANTI-WAR PROTESTS IN CHICAGO
THE WAR HAS STARTED! 100 BOMBS WERE DROPPED TODAY
[PLUS THE CASE OF Dr. SAMIRAH]
by our representative Ather Masood

The media refuses to elaborate on what has transpired today.

The following events with regards to Iraq has happened:

1. President Bush HAS ALREADY authorized war through Vice
President Cheney.

2. America troops have ALREADY crossed the border from Kuwait
into Southern
Iraq.

3. U.S. and British bombers dropped over one hundred, laser-
guided, 2,000
lbs bombs all over Southern Iraqi battle stations. The number
of casualties
are not yet know.

 PROTEST IN RAVENSWOOD COMMUNITY.

On Saturday, March 17, one of the most well-known Chicago area
communities
protested against the upcoming war. In the neighborhood of the
newly
elected governor of Illinois, an estimated 100-200 anti-war
protestors
flocked to Wells-Park carrying signs and chanting against the
war. The
unique gathering was composed of local volunteers, War- veterans
who choose
to come out despite feeling backlash, students, and even the
Alderman. The
funny thing about this incident was that the Alderman was
confronted by
local police officers who did not recognize their own Alderman.
If these
police officer do not even know their own Alderman can they
really
differentiate between Osama Bin-Laden, Saddam Hussein, or even a
person of
color? The police were shocked to learn of the Alderman from the
very
community
of the Governor.
That very same evening, thousands of people marched towards the
Ravenswood
neighborhood once again to hold a candlelight vigil to protest
American
Imperialism. Adjacent area-living residents in joined
Ravenswood residents
turned out to continue the protest. This time with about 1,000-
2,000
participants from Middle-upper class backgrounds. The entire
spectacular
event was made possible by Ms. Julie Peterson whose website link
is:

http://www.beyondtoday.com/peace.htm

On March 18, Sunday an estimated 9-10,000 Anti war marchers
lined the
Federal Plaza in downtown. Muslims, Christians, Jews, Vietnam
war veterans,
Native-Americans, Mexican-Activists, African-American activists
and many
others joined forces to completely halt downtown activity.

Joan Baez, the legendary singer, organized a successful
gathering that
included people from
every aspect of American life. The major streets in downtown
Chicago were
completely flooded with protestors, some coming from as far away
as
California just to protest Bush's policy. Well known Professor
of Civil
Rights Barak Obama denounced President Bush's war which totally
disregards
public opinion in the entire world.

SHOOTING AT MOSQUE

On March 11, 2003 the Villa Park Masjid was attacked by random
vandals who
launched a projectile into the front windows. Even though
several
individuals were praying at the time, the assailant shattered
the front
glassed-windows and was able to escape. Let it be known the
Villa Park
Masjid was one of the few places that invited Dr. Siddique to
speak on
various subjects regarding the Muslim community. At this point,
police have
been unable to apprehend any suspect. The Villa Park area in
Illinois has
been known to be a place frequented by white supremacists for a
LONG time.
However, the overwhelming number of people there support, stand
with, and
appreciate the Muslims in that community.

IN DEFENSE OF DR. SABRIH SAMIRAH

As we all know now, Dr. Samirah was denied entry into America
from Ireland.
Despite living a life of complete activism and self-sacrifice
from the
Muslim community. Dr. Samirah ALWAYS was seen at every Muslim
event. Always
helping, striving, and appreciating Muslims from all walks of
life. He was
most involved with being a liaison between Muslims, Arab-
Americans, and even
Non-Muslims and various elected officials. IT IS A SHAME THAT
DESPITE THE
FACT EVERY ELECTED OFFICIAL KNEW THE BROTHER, ALL KEPT THEIR
MOUTH SHUT WHEN
HE WAS PUSHED INTO CRISIS.

Now the media is trying to defame Dr. Samirah's academic
reputation. Quite
recently media moguls have tried to question whether the brother
earned
credible degrees in college. To this we ask the question what
does this have
to do with his denial of entry? Why was he denied entry at this
time? In the
end the removal of Dr. Samirah from these shores, is an attempt
to destroy
any Muslim in leadership. We are being placed into a situation
where any
Muslim speaking up will be COINTELPROED out of town.

A WORD OF CAUTION TO ALL MUSLIMS.

We must be aware that many so-called "Muslims," are being used
by Mr.
Ashcrofft to spy, report, slander, and eventually destroy
Muslims in this
nation. We need to advise our Muslim community, Pro-war
activists, and
families (bad and good) to become aware of those representatives
in the
mass-media or government being used to spy and destroy Muslims
attempting to
stand for the freedoms and rights. Do not accept interviews with
people who
you do not know. Question interviewers from the media or from
the police
before they question you. REMEMBER! YOU DO NOT HAVE TO TALK TO
THE FBI. Tell
them to speak to your attorney.

MUSHARREF of Pakistan, MUBARAK of Egypt are Part of War on
Muslims
[From Shaikh Mohommed, our representative in London, England]

Well, the die is cast and occupation of Iraq will commence.
This is not a
war because there is no Army in Iraq which will make a stand.
Iraq has no
WMD/chemical weapons. This is not a commencement of an attack
because attack
by US/British planes have been continuing under the so-
called no-fly zone .

We know that Baghdad and other cities will be bombarded and
Iraqi populations
will be the target. Before they commence occupation of Iraq,
they will make
sure that Iraqi cities and towns will be devastated and
destroyed. Then only
and only then will US and British forces enter Iraq.

We should in the meantime hold fast to our religion (Islam) and
pray that
Allah (SWAT) helps us in this difficult time. We should also
use our energy
in demonstrating and marching and doing any activity however
little to expose
the aggression against the people of Iraq and also expose the
stooges ruling
over Islamic countries. General Musharraf of Pakistan, President
Mubarak of
Egypt, and other Governments are helping USA to kill Iraqis and
Palestinians
and it is our duty to bring these Governments to account.

Time is not far when the might of USA will be defeated as it was
defeated in
Vietnam. Inshallah.

MEMORIAL FOR RACHEL DISRUPTED BY ISRAELI ARMY

Chris McGreal in Jerusalem
Wednesday March 19, 2003
The Guardian

http://www.guardian.co.uk/israel/Story/0,2763,917178,00.html

Israeli forces fired teargas and stun grenades yesterday in an
attempt to
break up a memorial service for Rachel Corrie, the American
peace activist
killed by an army bulldozer in Gaza on Sunday.
Witnesses including several dozen foreigners and Palestinian
supporters say
Israeli armoured vehicles tried to disperse the gathering at the
spot in
Rafah refugee camp where Ms Corrie was crushed to death.

The 23 year-old activist with the International Solidarity
Movement (ISM) was
trying to prevent the destruction of Palestinian homes by the
Israelis when
she was hit by the bulldozer.

Joe Smith, a young activist from Kansas City, said about 100
people were
gathered to lay carnations and erect a small memorial when the
first armoured
personnel carrier appeared.

"They started firing teargas and blowing smoke, then they fired
sound
grenades. After a while it got hectic so we sat down. Then the
tank came over
and shot in the air," he said. "It scared a lot of Palestinians,
especially
the shooting made a lot of them run and the teargas freaked
people out. But
most of us stayed."

Another witness said the army failed to break up the service.

"People were laying carnations at the spot where Rachel was
killed when a
tank came and fired teargas right on them. Then a core group of
the peace
activists took an ISM cloth banner to the fence and pinned it
up.

"The tank chased after them trying to stop them with teargas but
the wind was
against the army," she said.

Tensions rose further when a convoy of vehicles, including the
bulldozer that
killed Ms Corrie, passed the area.

"I don't think it was deliberate but it was pretty insensitive,"
said Mr
Smith.

"I think they had been destroying some buildings elsewhere and
had to pass by
to get back to their base."

The army said it was investigating the incident.

Hadith 1
Hadhrat Nu maan ibn Basheer (Radhiallaahu Anhu) narrates that
Rasulullah (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) said, You will see the
believers in their mutual mercy for one another, mutual love for
one another, and mutual companion for one another like a body.
When one limb (of the body) complains, that effects the entire
body by being awake and having fever. (Mishkaat pg.422; Qadeemi)

Hadith 2
Hadhrat Abu Musa (Radhiallaahu Anhu) narrates that Rasulullah
(Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) said, A believer to a believer is
like a building that strengthens one another (with each brick).
(Ibid)

Hadith 3
Hadhrat Ibn Umar (Radhiallaahu Anhu) narrates that Rasulullah
(Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) said, A Muslim is a brother of
another Muslim, so do not oppress him and do not hand him over
(to the mercy of the enemies when he is in trouble). (Ibid)

Hadith 4
Hadhrat Aamir ibn Maalik, the leader of the tribe of Bani Sulaym
requested the help of Rasulullah (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam)
against the enemies of his tribe. Rasulullah (Sallallaahu Alayhi
Wasallam) accepted his request and sent seventy Sahaaba
(Radhiallaahu Anhum) who were Qurraa (experts in the recitation
of the noble Qur aan). The tribe of Banu Sulaym surrounded these
Sahaaba (Radhiallaahu Anhum) by a place called Bir Ma oona and
murdered them.

Jibraaeel (Alayhis salaam) informed Rasulullah (Sallallaahu
Alayhi Wasallam) of the incident and conveyed to him the
heartfelt message of the Qurraa:
Inform our people that we met our Rabb. He was pleased with us
and (in turn) pleased us.

This incident caused great grief to Rasulullah. Abdullah ibn
Mas ood (Radhiallaahu Anhu) narrates that Rasulullah
(Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) recited Qunoot Naazila for one
month continuously cursing the tribe of Bani Sulaym. (Bukhari
vol.2 pg.586; )

In view of the above, the Fuqahaa have ruled that when the Ummat
is in a crisis, they should follow the Sunnah practise of Qunoot-
e-Naazila and make Du aa for the Ummah.Once again we are at
crossroads and we should resort to the Sunnat practise of Qunoot-
e-Naazila.

METHOD OF QUNOOT-E-NAAZILA

In Fajr Salaat, after the Ruku of the second Rakaat, the Imaam
will make audible Du aa. The Muqtadee (followers) will listen to
the Du aa and say, Aameen softly during the pauses of the
Imaam s Du aa. (Fataawa Mahmoodiyyah vol.2 pg.138)
The Muqtadis will not recite the Du aa with the Imaam. (I elaa-
us-Sunan vol.6 pg.120; Idaratul Qur aan)
The Imaam and the Muqtadis should not raise their hands during
the Du aa. The hands should be left by their sides. (Shaami
vol.2 pg.9; HM Saeed)
Upon completion of the Du aa, they will go into Sajdah and
complete the Salaat as normal.
1. Qunoot-e-Naazila may be recited by the Imaam during Fajr
Salaat. A Munfarid (person performing Fardh Salaat individually)
may not recite Qunoot-e-Naazila. (Shaami vol.2 pg.11; HM Saeed)

2. One may also recite Qunoot-e-Naazila in Nafl Salaat,
performed individually during the night. (Fataawa Mahmoodiya
vol.2 pg.138)

3. Females may also recite Qunoot-e-Naazila in Nafl Salaat.

THE QUNOOT (DU'AA): Hadhrat Ibn Abbaas (Radhiallaahu Anhu)
narrates: Rasulullah (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) would teach
us the following Du'aa to be recited in the Salaat of Fajr:

Translation : O Allah, guide us aright along with those who have
been rightly guided and grant us safety along with those that
have been granted safety and support us along with those that
have been supported and add Your Blessings to what You have
given us and save us from the harmful effects of what You have
ordained ( i.e. lest I should be wanting in cheerfully
submitting to your Decrees) as You alone disposes and no one can
dispose against You. Anyone who is under Your Protection cannot
be lowered and anyone who is opposed by You cannot gain dignity;
our Lord; You are full of blessings and Most High, we beg
forgiveness from You and repent before You and may the blessings
of Allah be showered on the Holy Prophet (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wa
Sallam). O Allah, forgive us and the believing men and women and
Muslim men and women, unite their hearts with mutual love, set
right their mutual affairs and help them against theirs and Your
enemy. O Allah, let Your curse be on those unbelievers who
prevent people from treading Your path, who reject Your prophets
and fight Your chosen ones. O Allah, make difficult their plans,
shake their feet and give them such punishment which is not
turned away from a sinning people.

The Ulama have advised that the Du aa should be according

TWELVE PROOFS THAT MUHAMMAD (PEACE BE UPON HIM)
WAS A TRUE PROPHET

-----------------------------------------------------------------
---------------

By Sh. `Abdur Rahman `Abdul Khaliq

1. Muhammad (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) was
raised illiterate, unable to read or write, and remained like
that till his death. Among all his people, he was known as being
truthful and trustworthy. Before receiving revelation, he had no
prior knowledge of Religion or any previously sent Message. He
remained like that for his first forty years. Revelation then
came to Muhammad with theKoran that we now have between our
hands. This Koran mentioned most of the accounts found in the
previous scriptures, telling us about these events in the
greatest detail as if he witnessed them. These accounts came
precisely as they were found in the Torah sent down to Moses and
in the Gospel sent down to Jesus. Neither the Jews or Christians
were able to believe him regarding anything that he said.

2. Muhammad (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) also
foretold of everything that wouldoccur to him and his community
after him, pertaining to victory, the removal of the tyrannical
kingdoms of Chosroes [the royal title for the Zoroastrian kings
of Persia] and Caesar, and the establishment of the religion of
Islam throughout the earth. These events occurred exactly as
Muhammad foretold, as ifhe was reading the future from an open
book.

3. Muhammad (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) also
brought an Arabic Koran that isthe peak of eloquence and
clarity. The Koran challenged those eloquent and fluent Arabs of
his time, who initially belied him, to bring forth a single
chapter like the Koran. The eloquent Arabs of his day were
unable to contest this Koran.Indeed, till our day, none has ever
dared to claim that he has been able to compose words that equal-
or even approach-the order, grace, beauty, and splendor of this
Glorious Koran.

4. The life history of this Noble Prophet was a perfect example
of being upright, merciful, compassionate, truthful, brave,
generous, distant from all evil character, and ascetic in all
worldly matters, while striving solely for the reward of the
Hereafter. Moreover, in all his actions and dealings, he was
ever mindful and fearful of Allah.

5. Allah instilled great love for Muhammad (may Allah's
blessings and peace be upon him) in the hearts of all who
believed in and met him. This love reached such a degree that
any of his companions would willingly sacrifice his (or her)
self, mother or father for him. Till today, those who believe in
Muhammad honor and love him. Anyone of those who believe in him
would ransom his own family and wealth to see him, even if but
once.

6. All of history has not preserved the biography of any person
in the manner it has preserved the life of Muhammad, who is the
most influential human in history. Nor has the entire earth
known of anyone whom every morning and evening, and many times
thereafter throughout the day, is thought of by those who
believe in him. Upon rememberingMuhammad, the believers in him
will greet him and ask Allah to bless him. They do such with
full hearts and true love for him.

7. Nor has there every been a man on earth whom is still
followed in all his doings by those whobelieve in him. Those who
believe in Muhammad, sleep in the manner he slept; purify
themselves (through ablutionand ritual washing) in the manner he
purified himself; and adhere to his practice in the way they
eat, drink, and clothe themselves.

Indeed in all aspects of their lives, the believers in Muhammad
adhere to the teachings he spread among them and the path that
he traveled upon during his life.

During every generation, from his day till our time, the
believers in this Noble prophet have fullyadhered to his
teachings. With some, this has reached the degree that they
desire to follow and adhere to the Prophet's way in his personal
matters regarding which Allah has not sought of them to adhere
to in worship. For example, some will only eat those specific
foods or only wear those specific garmentsthat the Messenger
liked.

Let alone all that, all those who believe in Muhammad repeat
those praises of Allah, special prayers, and invocations that he
would say during each of his actions during day and night, like:
what he would say when he greeted people, upon entering and
leaving the house, entering and leaving the mosque, entering and
leaving the bathroom, going to sleep and awaking from sleep,
observing the new crescent, observing the new fruit on trees,
eating, drinking, dressing, riding, traveling and returning from
travel, etc. Let alone all that, all those who believe in
Muhammad fully perform-even to the minute detail-every act of
worship-like prayer, fasting, charity, and pilgrimage-as this
Noble Messenger (may Allah's blessingsand peace be upon him)
taught and as he himself performed. All of this allows those who
believe in him, to live their lives in all aspects with this
Noble Messenger as their example, as if he was standing before
them, for them to follow in all their doings.

8. There has never been nor will there ever be a man anywhere
upon this earth who has received suchlove, respect, honor, and
obedience in all matters-small and large alike-as has this Noble
Prophet.

9. Since his day, in every region of the earth and during every
period, this Noble Prophet has beenfollowed by individuals from
all races, colors and peoples. Many of those who followed him
were previously Christians, Jews, pagans, idolaters, or without
any religion. Among those who chose to follow him, were those
who were known for their sound judgment, wisdom, reflection, and
foresight. They chose to follow this Noble Prophet after they
witnessed the signs of his truthfulness and the evidences of his
miracles. They did not choose to follow Muhammad out of
compulsion or coercion orbecause they had adopted the ways of
their fathers and mothers.Indeed many of the followers of this
Prophet (may Allah's blessings peace be upon him), chose to
follow him during the time when Islam was weak, when there were
few Muslims, and when there was severe persecution of his
followers on earth. Most people who have followed this Prophet
(may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) have done so not
to acquire some material benefits. Indeed many of his followers
have suffered the greatest forms of harm and persecution as a
result of followingthis Prophet. Despite all this harm and
persecution, this did not turn them back from his religion. My
brethren! All of this clearly indicates to anyone possessing any
sense, that this Prophet was truly and really Allah's messenger
and that he was not just a man who claimed prophethood or spoke
aboutAllah without knowledge.

10. With all this, Muhammad came with a great religion in its
credal and legal make-up. Muhammad described Allah with
qualities of complete perfection, and at the same time in a
manner that is free of ascribing to Him any imperfection.
Neither the philosophers or the wise could ever describe Allah
like such. Indeed it is impossible to imagine that any human
mind could conceive of an existing being that possesses such
complete ability, knowledge, and greatness; Who has subdued
thecreation; Who has encompassed everything in the universe,
small or large; and Who possesses such perfect mercy.Nor is it
in the ability of any human being to place a perfect law based
upon justice, equality, mercy and objectivity for all human
activity on earth like the laws that Muhammad brought for all
spheres of human activity - like buying and selling, marriage
and divorce, renting, testimony, custody, and all othercontracts
that are necessary to uphold life and civilization on earth.

11. It is impossible that any person conceive wisdom,, morals,
good manners, nobleness of charactersas what this honorable
Prophet (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) brought.
In a full and complete manner, Muhammad spread a teaching
regarding character and manners towardone' parents, relatives,
fiends, family, humanity, animals, plants and inanimate objects.
It is impossible for the human mind alone to grasp all of that
teaching or come with a similar teaching. All of that
unequivocally indicates that this Messenger did not bring any of
this religion from his own accord, but that it was rather a
teaching and inspiration that he received from the One Who
created the earth and the high heavens above and created this
universe in its miraculous architecture andperfection.

12. The legal and credal make-up of the religion that the
Messenger, Muhammad, (may Allah'sblessings and peace be upon
him) brought resembles the engineering of the heavens and the
earth. All of that indicates that He who created the heavens and
the earth is the One Who sent down this great law and upright
religion. The degree of inimitability of the Divine law that was
sent down upon Muhammad is to the same degree of inimitability
of the Divine creation of the heavens and earth. For just as
humanity cannot create this universe, in the same manner
humanity cannot bring forth a law like Allah's law that He sent
down upon His servant and messenger Muhammad (may Allah's
blessings and peace be upon him).

your heart" [at-tirmidhi]

Hezbollah said deploying Katyusha batteries in
south Lebanon

By Daniel Sobelman, Haaretz Correspondent

The militant Hezbollah organization has deployed Katyusha
missile batteries in south Lebanon, the Lebanese a-
Safirnewspaper reported Wednesday.

The paper is viewed as close to Hezbollah.

The report, based on eyewitness accounts in south Lebanon,
states that the deployment is part of precautionary measures
that the pro-Iranian organization is taking against the
possibility that Israel will "take advantage of the war" and
attack Lebanon, and is taking place as the IDF beefs up its
forces on the northern border.

Hezbollah leaders have stressed recently that they had no
intention of attacking Israel during the U.S.-led war in Iraq,
adding that they believed Israel would choose to attack Lebanon
during this period.

On Monday, Hezbollah leader Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah warned that
although his group did not seek confrontation with the United
States, it would respond if U.S. forces opened an offensive
against it.

FAMILY UNITY DURING WAR TIME: Islam Forbids Domestic Violence
"Qur'an only" Concept Hurting Rights of Women
by Kaukab Siddique

The violence which our power structure carries out all over
the world
often starts at home. More than 4,000,000 women are battered
every year in
the U.S. As an overflow of this culture of violence, numbers
Muslim men too
indulge in physical and psychological mistreatment of their
wives. Some of
these Muslims use a verse of the Qur'an to justify their
behavior. This
misunderstanding of the Qur'an is difficult to deal with owing
to an
important reason:
1. Attempts to interpret the Qur'an without the help of the
Hadith.
2. Without the Hadith, one cannot know that the Qur'an's
revelation was
progressive, not static. It is a mistake to interpret the Qur'an
without the
concept of "abrogation" which the Hadith provides.
3. In all matters, the Prophet's (pbuh) interpretation of the
Qur'an is
FINAL. The Qur'an itself does not permit interpretation which
ignores what
the Prophet (pbuh) said about it.
4. THE PROPHET (pbuh) HAS ABSOLUTELY FORBIDDEN ALL VIOLENCE
AGAINST women in
general and wives in particular. As hazrat 'Ayesha (r.a.)
reports: The
messenger of Allah (pbuh) never raised his hand against a woman.
5. Even rough behavior, without intent to do violence or to
hurt, directed
towards women, was forbidden by the Prophet (pbuh). As he told a
reckless
camel driver who was transporting women:"Be careful, Anjasha,
these are
vessels of glass which might break easily."

Domestic violence is widespread. Fortunately, an Islamic
program has
been successfully initiated to help the victims of such violence
in Atlanta.
Great work is being done by BAITUL SALAAM. To send your help, by
way of

A DIFFERENT VIEW OF THE COMING BATTLE IN IRAQ
[by Br. Eric Mueller in Texas]

Dear Brother Kaukab,

as-Salam `alaykum wa-rahmat Allah wa-barakatuh!

I have enjoyed the two parts of your editorial
tremendously.

As regards the war on Iraq, I would like to observe
that we must not be discouraged if the Imperialists
seem to make spectacular troop advances in the first
days of fighting. Much of Iraq is open country and
with US air superiority, it would be stupid for the
Iraqis to try to hold on to that territory.

German General Erwin Rommel in World War II said that
desert fighting was like fighting at sea -- you take
one point and then cross lots of open country before
the next place of resistance and the next battle. If
you look at the campaigns in North Africa during the
Second World War, you see that the German Afrika Korps
penetrated into Egypt twice and were driven back by
the British across most of Libya twice. That is how
fluid the fighting on such a battlefield is. And of
course Rommel and the British were fighting a
conventional war and were technologically about equal.

Iraq will be fighting very much an unconventional war.

So let no one be discouraged if we quickly hear that
the Americans have penetrated deep into the country.
The real battle will still be in store for them.

Similarly just as the Americans had no hesitation in
1990 about trotting out the daughter of the Kuwaiti
ambassador to invent stories of "Iraqi atrocities"
that she "witnessed" even though she hadn't even been
in Kuwait recently, So today the Americans are certain
to bring up all sorts of people, probably many of them
already trained and rehearsed, to complain about
torture and abuse at the hands of the Iraqi regime.
The regime in Iraq has been the object of an unceasing
campaign for its overthrow for more than 12 years by
the richest, most powerful states on earth. The only
way that any government could stay in power in the
face of that intense pressure is with extremely tight
security. The Americans even admit to having tried to
get Saddam Husayn assassinated 12 times. So his need
to take strict security measures cannot be questioned
by any reasonable person.

And while we're on the subject of torture, how about
the treatment that the US troops give to those whom
they captured in Afghanistan? Stripping all their
clothes off, often in the presence of women, taping
them to boards, and leaving them naked for days, lying
in their own waste, with no medical care for injuries.
That was the fate of the American Muslim known as
John Walker Lindh. What of the Muslims who didn't
carry a US passport? Can we imagine that they were
given better treatment? Many of those who have been
arrested in the US speak of beatings as well -- and
most of the detainees in the US have NOT been
released.

Rest assured that CBS, FOX, WB, NBC, ABC, CNN and the
rest of them are not going to report how the Americans
treat the Iraqi prisoners, unless it is some sort of
sanitized report. So when they bring up "torture,"
think of the brothers in Guantanamo!

Today, 18 March 2003, President Saddam Husayn told his
cabinet: "This battle will be Iraq's last battle with
every dirty, arrogant power (kull mutajabbir la'eem)
for some period of time, and it will be the last
aggressive battle that America undertakes against the
world for some time too. Victory is assured for you,
in sha' Allah, and the collapse of falsehood
(al-Baatil). Your enemy is going to collapse, by the
help of God because he is in falshood (`ala baatil)."

It may appear to the imperialists that they can win a
win a quick victory, occupying land and even
stationing troops in cities. Even a half victory will
be hailed by the imperialists as some great triumph,
and they will crow about how powerful their weaponsare. But this
will be
deception -- an attempt to
deceive us and at the same time a real deception of
themselves.

In the 1920s the Iraqis met the British invaders with
an armed revolt every year on average, even though
they carried muskets against machine guns and even
though the British dropped poisoned gas from
airplanes. But all their technology in the end
couldn't preserve the British empire, and the same
fate is in store for the evil empire with its
headquarters in Washington!

Allahu Akbar! wa-l-yakhsa' al-khasi'oun!

God is Greatest, and may the despicable be driven off!

wa-s-salam!

Afghan officials confirm US role in massacre of Taliban prisoners
[Courtesy Afghanistan-sl list]
March 17, 2003

On March 6, the German television programme Panorama presented
fresh evidence
implicating US troops in the massacre of Taliban prisoners
during the 2001
war in Afghanistan. Shown on the ARD channel, the programme
presented footage,
including interviews with two Afghan government ministers who
confirmed the
presence of American troops during the transportation and
killing of
surrendered
Taliban prisoners.

A documentary film made by Scottish director Jamie Doran?shown
in an
uncompleted
form to members of the European Parliament and other selected
audiences in
Europe last June?presented the first public charges of American
involvement
in war crimes in Afghanistan.

Doran's film documents events following the November 21, 2001
fall of Konduz,
the Taliban's last stronghold in northern Afghanistan. The film
presents
a series of witnesses who testify that American military forces
participated
in the armed assault and killing of several hundred Taliban
prisoners in
the Qala-i-Janghi fortress. Witnesses also allege that,
following the events
at Qala-i-Janghi, the American army command, together with
troops of the
Northern Alliance, were complicit in the killing and disposal of
a further
3,000 prisoners, out of a total of 8,000 who surrendered after
the battle
of Konduz.

Hundreds of prisoners died of suffocation in the course of
transportation
in closed containers to the prison of Shibarghan. The transport
finally ended
in a stretch of desert known as Dasht-i-Leili, near Mazar-i-
Sharif, where
dead bodies were unloaded and several hundred prisoners who were
still alive
were shot to death.

The US State Department has consistently denied any American
involvement
in the massacre of prisoners in the desert near Mazar-i-Sharif
by forces
loyal to the commander of the Northern Alliance, General Rashid
Dostun. Dostun
was the closest ally of American forces in November 2001 when
fighting in
Afghanistan reached its peak.

Following the showing of the rough cut of Doran's film the
Pentagon issued
a June 13, 2002 statement denying US complicity in the torture
and murder
of POWs. The US State Department followed suit with a formal
denial one day
later.

In December of last year, Doran's completed film Massacre in
Afghanistan?Did
the Americans Look On? was shown to German audiences. The film
has already
been shown in Britain and Italy and has been bought for showing
in a totalof
11 other countries. The American media has blocked virtually all
coverage
of the film and its allegations. The film was recently released,
however,
on video?titled Afghan Massacre?Convoy of Death, available from
Doran's
production
company at www.acftv.net.

Prior to the German broadcast, a State Department spokesman,
Larry Schwartz,
declared: "It is a mystery to us why a respected television
channel is showing
a documentary in which the facts are completely wrong and which
unfairly
depicts the US mission in Afghanistan." Following the December
transmission,
State Department officials once again denied any involvement by
US troops
in the killing of Taliban prisoners.

Now the allegations raised in Doran's film have been confirmed
for the first
time by Afghan government officials. German reporters
accompanied a small
team representing the German parliamentary committee for Human
Rights to
Afghanistan on a trip to investigate the background to the
events in
Mazar-i-Sharif.
In the course of their research, the reporters were able to
briefly interview
Rashid Dostun, who now occupies the post of joint Deputy Defence
Minister
of Afghanistan.

In the interview, Dostun acknowledged that the killing of
prisoners had taken
place. He was not prepared to be drawn out, however, on the role
played by
US troops in these killings. Dostun shares the deputy post at
the Afghan
Defence Ministry with another general, Atig ullah Barialei, who
was much
more forthright and conceded that American troops were in
attendance at this
massacre.

Barialei stated in an interview with Panorama reporters at the
Defence
Ministry
that, in his opinion, what had taken place in the desert was a
war crime,
and he confirmed that "at all the incidents which took place,
American troops
were present."

Barialei's charge was confirmed by Afghanistan's Interior
Minister Taj
Muhammed
Wardak. Wardak acknowledged that unarmed prisoners had been
killed in an
operation that he called an "accident". Wardak went on to
acknowledge that
US troops were present during both the transportation and
killing of the
prisoners. Shortly after his interview with Panorama, Wardak
resigned his
post as interior minister for reasons that remain unclear.

In a comment for the Panorama programme, Christa Nickels,
representing the
German parliamentary committee for Human Rights, stated that she
was convinced
beyond any doubt that a massacre of prisoners had taken place.
The prisoners
had previously been disarmed, and their killing was in blatant
violation
of international law. She added that the statements made by
Afghan government
officials served to reinforce allegations that American Special
Forces
troopswere present during the killings.

The United Nations had agreed to organise a fullscale
investigation of the
events at Mazar-i-Sharif this spring, but according to a
representative of
Physicians for Human Rights interviewed in the Panorama
documentary, there
is little chance of such a probe ever taking place. No agreement
has been
reached with the government of Afghanistan for the protection of
those who
would do the investigating, and the UN is displaying little
willingness to
ensure on its own that suitable protection be made available.

Since Doran's film was completed, two of the eyewitnesses who
testified on
camera to seeing US soldiers at the scene of the killings have
themselves
been murdered. Other witnesses and co-workers of the filmmaker
have received
death threats.

The Panorama documentary ends with recent footage of the desert
where the
massacre took place. There are indications of digging suggesting
that an
attempt is underway to destroy the evidence of a war crime. The
film's
narrator
warns that a forthcoming war in Iraq, with all its new attendant
horrors,
could serve to finally distract all attention from the
involvement of US
forces in the war crimes carried out at Mazar-i-Sharif.

The War Against Ourselves

An Interview with Major Doug Rokke

Doug Rokke has a PhD in health physics and was originally
trained as a forensic scientist. When the Gulf War started, he
was assigned to prepare soldiers to respond to nuclear,
biological, and chemical warfare, and sent to the Gulf. What he
experienced has made him a passionate voice for peace, traveling
the country to speak out. The following interview was conducted
by the director of the Traprock Peace Center, Sunny Miller,
supplemented with questions from YES! editors.

QUESTION: Any viewer who saw the war on television had the
impression this was an easy war, fought from a distance and
soldiers coming back relatively unharmed. Is this an accurate
picture?

ROKKE: At the completion of the Gulf War, when we came back to
the United States in the fall of 1991, we had a total casualty
count of 760: 294 dead, a little over 400 wounded or ill. But
the casualty rate now for Gulf War veterans is approximately 30
percent. Of those stationed in the theater, including after the
conflict, 221,000 have been awarded disability, according to a
Veterans Affairs (VA) report issued September 10, 2002.

Many of the US casualties died as a direct result of uranium
munitions friendly fire. US forces killed and wounded US forces.

We recommended care for anybody downwind of any uranium dust,
anybody working in and around uranium contamination, and anyone
within a vehicle, structure, or building that s struck with
uranium munitions. That s thousands upon thousands of
individuals, but not only US troops. You should provide medical
care not only for the enemy soldiers but for the Iraqi women and
children affected, and clean up all of the contamination in
Iraq.

And it s not just children in Iraq. It s children born to
soldiers after they came back home. The military admitted that
they were finding uranium excreted in the semen of the soldiers.
If you ve got uranium in the semen, the genetics are messed up.
So when the children were conceived the alpha particles cause
such tremendous cell damage and genetics damage that everything
goes bad. Studies have found that male soldiers who served in
the Gulf War were almost twice as likely to have a child with a
birth defect and female soldiers almost three times as likely.

Q: You have been a military man for over 35 years. You served in
Vietnam as a bombardier and you are still in the US Army
Reserves. Now you re going around the country speaking about the
dangers of depleted uranium (DU). What made you decide you had
to speak publicly about DU?

ROKKE: Everybody on my team was getting sick. My best friend
John Sitton was dying. The military refused him medical care,
and he died. John set up the medical evacuation communication
system for the entire theater. Then he got contaminated doing
the work.

John and Rolla Dolph and I were best friends in the civilian
world, the military world, forever. Rolla got sick. I personally
got the order that sent him to war. We were both activated
together. I was given the assignment to teach nuclear,
biological, and chemical warfare and make sure soldiers came
back alive and safe. I take it seriously. I was sent to the Gulf
with this instruction: Bring em back alive. Clear as could be.
But when I got all the training together, all the environmental
cleanup procedures together, all the medical directives, nothing
happened.

More than 100 American soldiers were exposed to DU in friendly
fire accidents, plus untold numbers of soldiers who climbed on
and entered tanks that had been hit with DU, taking photos and
gathering souvenirs to take home. They didn t know about the
hazards.

DU is an extremely effective weapon. Each tank round is 10
pounds of solid uranium-238 contaminated with plutonium,
neptunium, americium. It is pyrophoric, generating intense heat
on impact, penetrating a tank because of the heavy weight of its
metal. When uranium munitions hit, it s like a firestorm inside
any vehicle or structure, and so we saw tremendous burns,
tremendous injuries. It was devastating.

The US military decided to blow up Saddam s chemical,
biological, and radiological stockpiles in place, which released
the contamination back on the US troops and on everybody in the
whole region. The chemical agent detectors and radiological
monitors were going off all over the place. We had all of the
various nerve agents. We think there were biological agents, and
there were destroyed nuclear reactor facilities. It was a toxic
wasteland. And we had DU added to this whole mess.

When we first got assigned to clean up the DU and arrived in
northern Saudi Arabia, we started getting sick within 72 hours.
Respiratory problems, rashes, bleeding, open sores started
almost immediately.

When you have a mass dose of radioactive particulates and you
start breathing that in, the deposit sits in the back of the
pharynx, where the cancer started initially on the first guy. It
doesn t take a lot of time. I had a father and son working with
me. The father is already dead from lung cancer, and the sick
son is still denied medical care.

Q: Did you suspect what was happening?

ROKKE: We didn t know anything about DU when the Gulf War
started. As a warrior, you re listening to your leaders, and
they re saying there are no health effects from the DU. But, as
we started to study this, to go back to what we learned in
physics and our engineering I was a professor of environmental
science and engineering you learn rapidly that what they re
telling you doesn t agree with what you know and observe.

In June of 1991, when I got back to the States, I was sick.
Respiratory problems and the rashes and neurological things were
starting to show up.

Q: Why didn t you go to the VA with a medical complaint?

ROKKE: Because I was still in the Army, and I was told I
couldn t file. You have to have the information that connects
your exposure to your service before you go to the VA. The VA
obviously wasn t going to take care of me, so I went to my
private physician. We had no idea what it was, but so many good
people were coming back sick.

They didn t do tests on me or my team members. According to the
Department of Defense s own guidelines put out in 1992, any
excretion level in the urine above 15 micrograms of uranium per
day should result in immediate medical testing, and when you get
up to 250 micrograms of total uranium excreted per day, you re
supposed to be under continuous medical care.

Finally the US Department of Energy performed a radiobioassay on
me in November 1994, while I was director of the Depleted
Uranium Project for the Department of Defense. My excretion rate
was approximately 1500 micrograms per day. My level was 5 to 6
times beyond the level that requires continuous medical care.

But they didn t tell me for two and a half years.

Q: What are the symptoms of exposure to DU?

ROKKE: Fibromyalgia. Eye cataracts from the radiation. When
uranium impacts any type of vehicle or structure, uranium oxide
dust and pieces of uranium explode all over the place. This can
be breathed in or go into a wound. Once it gets in the body, a
portion of this stuff is soluble, which means it goes into the
blood stream and all of your organs. The insoluble fraction
stays in the lungs, for example. The radiation damage and the
particulates destroy the lungs.

Q: What kind of training have the troops had, who are getting
called up right now the ones being shipped to the vicinity of
what may be the next Gulf War?

ROKKE: As the director of the Depleted Uranium Project, I
developed a 40-hour block of training. All that curriculum has
been shelved. They turned what I wrote into a 20-minute program
that s full of distortions. It doesn t deal with the reality of
uranium munitions.

The equipment is defective. The General Accounting Office
verified that the gas masks leak, the chemical protective suits
leak. Unbelievably, Defense Department officials recently said
the defects can be fixed with duct tape.

Q: If my neighbors are being sent off to combat with equipment
and training that is inadequate, and into battle with a toxic
weapon, DU, who can speak up?

ROKKE: Every husband and wife, son and daughter, grandparent,
aunt and uncle, needs to call their congressmen and cite these
official government reports and force the military to ensure
that our troops have adequate equipment and adequate training.
If we don t take care of our American veterans after a war, as
happened with the Gulf War, and now we re about ready to send
them into a war again we can t do it. We can t do it. It s a
crime against God. It s a crime against humanity to use uranium
munitions in a war, and it s devastating to ignore the
consequences of war.

These consequences last for eternity. The half life of uranium
238 is 4.5 billion years. And we left over 320 tons all over the
place in Iraq.

We also bombarded Vieques, Puerto Rico, with DU in preparation
for the war in Kosovo. That s affecting American citizens on
American territory. When I tried to activate our team from the
Department of Defense responsible for radiological safety and DU
cleanup in Vieques, I was told no. When I tried to activate
medical care, I was told no.

The US Army made me their expert. I went into the project with
the total intent to ensure they could use uranium munitions in
war, because I m a warrior. What I saw as director of the
project, doing the research and working with my own medical
conditions and everybody else s, led me to one conclusion:
uranium munitions must be banned from the planet, for eternity,
and medical care must be provided for everyone, not just the US
or the Canadians or the British or the Germans or the French but
for the American citizens of Vieques, for the residents of Iraq,
of Okinawa, of Scotland, of Indiana, of Maryland, and now
Afghanistan and Kosovo.

Q: If your information got out widely, do you think there s a
possibility that the families of those soldiers would beg them
to refuse?

ROKKE: If you re going to be sent into a toxic wasteland, and
you know you re going to wear gas masks and chemical protective
suits that leak, and you re not going to get any medical care
after you re exposed to all of these things, would you go?
Suppose they gave a war and nobody came. You ve got to start
peace sometime.

Q: It does sound remarkable for someone who has been in the
military for 35 years to be talking about when peace should
begin.

ROKKE: When I do these talks, especially in churches, I m
reminded that these religions say, And a child will lead us to
peace. But if we contaminate the environment, where will the
child come from? The children won t be there. War has become
obsolete, because we can t deal with the consequences on our
warriors or the environment, but more important, on the
noncombatants. When you reach a point in war when the
contamination and the health effects of war can t be cleaned up
because of the weapons you use, and medical care can t be given
to the soldiers who participated in the war on either side or to
the civilians affected, then it s time for peace.

Denying Women Access to the Mosque: A Betrayal of the Prophet

by Shamima Sheikh

An 'ignorance' that's frightening

I was prompted to put together these few thoughts after a
meeting with a group of architects (who are also popular mosque
designers in South Africa) and students who presented their
proposals for the WITS mosque. The architects expressed their
certainty as to where a woman may be located in a mosque, saying
that any other accommodation was bid'ah (innovation). A young
student presenting his design said women and men reading
alongside were unacceptable; they had to be completely separated
(he said that women should be accommodated in a gallery). His
other assumption was that men at WITS could not control their
libidos.

It was their certainty that their beliefs and perspectives were
actually the Prophetic tradition and that anything else was
bid'ah that I found frightening. I was in no doubt about the
sincerity and love these men have for the Prophet (pbuh). It is
because of this and my own love for Islam and the Prophet (pbuh)
that I feel the need to inform them about what I've come to
learn about women and the space they occupied in the Prophet's
mosque.

Women's Space in the Prophet's Mosque

Women occupied the back rows of the Prophet's mosque, where they
could be seen and heard by the rest of the congregation.
(Remember that the Prophet's mosque was fairly small.) Ibn Abaas
(ra) said:

"Once the Prophet came out (for the 'Id prayers) as if I were
just observing him waving to the people to sit down. He then,
accompanied by Bilal, came crossing the rows till he reached the
women. He recited verse 12 of chapter 60 to them and asked: 'O
ladies, are you fulfilling your covenant?' None except one woman
said 'Yes'. The Prophet then said: 'Then give sadaqah.' Bilal
(ra) then spread his garment and said 'Keep on giving alms'." [1]

Access to the Imam

Direct contact between the Prophet, as the imam who led the
prayers, and those who attended the prayers seems to have been
an important element in the Friday khutba:

". . . On Friday he (the Prophet) preached the khutba leaning on
a staff. . . And the people were in front of him, their faces
raised toward him, they listened as they watched him. . . ."[2]

The idea that the mosque is a privileged place, the collective
space where the leader debates with all the members of the
community before making decisions, is the key idea of Islam
which today is presented to us as the bastion of despotism.
Everything passed through the mosque which became the school for
teaching new converts how to do the ritual prayer, the
principles of lslam, how to behave towards others in places of
worship and elsewhere. Was it fitting to come armed or not?
Could one have buying and selling there? (the Prophet and his
Makkan supporters were originally merchants) Could one keep
prisoners of war in the mosque courtyard (to keep better watch
on them) or not.

The mosque was a space where dialogue between the leader and the
people could take place. The apparently simple decision to
install a mimbar in the mosque was treated by the Prophet as a
matter that concerned all Muslims. The Prophet used to say the
Friday prayers standing, leaning against a palm trunk. One day
he announced that standing made him tired. Tamim al-Dari
answered: 'Why not build a pulpit like I have seen in Syria?'
The Prophet asked their advice on the question, and they agreed
to the suggestion. [4] A Madinah carpenter cut a tree and built
a pulpit with a seat and two steps up to it. Other versions say
that the Prophet was urged to take his place on the mimbar at
the time of prayer so that everybody could see him, because in a
few months the number of Muslims had grown considerably, and
this seemed a more plausible reason than fatigue. The Prophet
was only 54 years old at the time of the Hijra and was in the
prime of life.

From access to denial of access

In the Kitab al-Jum'a (Book of Friday) of Imam Bukhari (d. 256H),
[5] who wrote two centuries after the death of the Prophet
(pbuh), he quotes the hadith:

"Do not forbid the mosques of Allah to the women of Allah."

A half-century later (300H), Imam Nasa'i, wrote his al-Sunan. In
his chapter on al-masjid, he gives specifications for the rows
between men and women: how crowded they may be and how far from
each other. He states that a man has no right to forbid his wife
to go to the mosque. He quotes the Prophet: "When a woman asks
authorisation from one of you to go to the mosque, let him grant
it to her."[6]

Ibn al-Jawzi (d. 597H), wrote a book on the laws that govern
women in Islam and devoted his chapter 24 to 'Women's Friday
Service'. He had to acknowledge that they had a right to the
service since the hadith on the subject was incontrovertible.
However he raises three issues:

1. On the question of rows he said 'the prayers of men who are
seated behind women are worthless.'[7] It often happened that
men came to the mosque late and were blocked by the rows of
women. It is very easy to imagine the fatal next step: ban women
from the mosque, since the mere presence of women risked
creating a problem.

2. Ibn al-Jawzi then asks a question which in itself contains a
betrayal of the ancient texts: 'Is it permitted for women to go
to the mosque?' And his answer: 'If she fears disturbing men's
minds, it is better for her to pray at home.'[8]

3. He cites Bukhari's key hadith in which the Prophet stresses
that the mosques of Allah are not forbidden to women. He
concludes by saying that 'the Friday service is not a duty for
women'.[9] And, 'A woman should try to avoid going out as much
as she can.'[10]

But it is in reading modern authors like Muhammad Sadiq al-
Qannuji, the twentieth-century Indian scholar (d. 1308H), that
one notes the institutionalisation of the exclusion of women
from such a crucial place as a mosque. In his chapter on "What
has been said on the fact that the Friday sermon is not a duty
for women", he brings out a dubious hadith which says: "The
Friday service is a duty for all Muslims, with four exceptions:
slaves, women, children, and the ill."[11]

We are certainly a long way from the Prophet's mosque, open to
all, welcoming all those interested in Islam, including women.
The mosque now suffers a betrayal of Muhammad's (pbuh) ideal
community: women are declared strangers to the place of worship.
Women, who had the privilege of access to the mosque as
sahabiyyaat (companions of the Prophet) very quickly became
polluting, evil beings.

Sexual Men and Invisible Women

The premise that women 'distract' men from their spiritual
endeavors and that they stimulate sexual urges rests on a
certain understanding of what it means to be human, and a
certain understanding of what constitutes maleness and
femaleness.

This argument operates from the premise that our focus of
control, and our focus of self as human beings, as Muslims, is
outside ourselves, and that men have weak inner centres since,
upon seeing and listening to women, they are overcome by
irresistible uncontrollable sexual urges. By such reasoning we
imply that man are incapable of taking moral responsibility for
their behaviour and relations.

The solution is to manipulate the external environment women
must be invisible to keep men's responses in check. This
raises important questions: What does this say about man's
capacity to take full responsibility for his spirituality? On
what understanding of humanity are these arguments based?

In order that we believing men and believing women, God-
conscious men and God-conscious women, can reclaim our full
humanity, reclaim our Islam, we need to revolutionize our
categories of maleness and femaleness. We must reject the idea
of uncontrollable male sexuality and evil women.

Allah says in the Qur'an:

"The Believers, men and women, are protectors one of another:
they enjoin what is just, and forbid what is evil: they observe
regular prayers, practice regular charity, and obey Allah and
His apostle. On them will Allah pour His mercy: for Allah is
Exalted in Power, Wise."[12]

Therapy for Male 'Sexuality'

For those men and women who view each other only as sexual
beings, the mosque precinct a holy precinct can be
therapeutic. On seeing women in the holy precinct, the depraved
soul has to recognise that women are not just sexy beings but
spiritual beings, members of the ummah, their sisters in faith.
If women are invisible in this holy precinct his perception of
women as just sexy beings will not be challenged and he will
never be able to reclaim his full humanity, his Islam.

May Allah guide us and help us respect each other

Most of the Muslim/Arab leaders have been lured into believing
that they must buy armaments from West and these folks will also
protect them. But it has been nearly forty-four years that they
have not learnt a single lesson. The Arabs/Muslims have been
made to fight with one another through "Virtual Reality Demons"
created by the West, and by pretending to be their protectors
and saviors. As James Schlesinger pointed out just tonight on
PBS-TV's News Hour Program that Bush et al. planned
a "sequential assault" to dominate the Middle East. Nine-eleven
was merely used as an excuse and there are tell-tale signs that
it was planned by the collaboration of local law
enforcemnent/intelligence agencies who were at loggers-head with
the folks in diplomatic community. Thus they collaborated with a
common enemy to stage the WTC event, in which they deliberately
lost their mastermind, John O' Neill, to eliminate any traces of
any such collaborative effort (like Jack Ruby killing Lee Harvey
Oswald, who later died of a suspicious cancer).

Last year it was Afghanistan, this year it is Iraq, and Allah
and Bush et al. only know who is next in there serial genocide
of Muslim nations. Had the rulers not been fooled into
establishing Gulf Cooperative Council after 1991 Gulf War,
Muslims wouldn't be seeing this day, when the enemies of Islam
will kill another thousands of Muslims and deestry the resources
of Muslims to keep us backward and dominated pretending to be
the protectors and friends of Muslims, while the reality is that
a few hundred Muslims are being tortured and incacerated against
the International Law in Guntanamo Bay, Cuba, and Bagram Air
Base in Kabul. If Muslim rulers or people think that this blood
money earned to minmize their economic woes will help them, they
must not forget that Allah will never forgive those who became
instruments in handing over their brethren to foreigners to have
them tortured and killed, annd where they will never receive
proper justice till the cows come home. The personal greed
harbored by foreign aid and the booty earned for delivering
Muslim trophies will cause further degeneration of Muslims
rather than uplift their economic and social condition.

Remember:

Brief about IRAQ:

* The previous Gulf War cost the Arabs almost $100 billion, and
Saudi Arabi for the first time had to borrow money to meet
domestic programs.

* More than 200, 000 Iraqi Soldiers were killed like wild
turkeys.

More than 4,000 civilians were killed some with the most
horrible bombs known as Bunker Busters in an Air Raid Shelter.

* 40 tons of Depleted Uranium debris was left after using DU
munitions, affecting more than 500,000 people dying with Cancer.
(Half life of Uranium-238 is 4.6 billion years)..

* Prior to sanctions the inflation rate stood at a level of 45
% , and between August 1990 and January 1991, it rose to 1,000 %.

* GDP decreased from US$66 billion in 1989 to an incredible US
$100-200 billion.

* The cost of reconstruction was estimated to be $200 billion.

* Forty % of the schools were destroyed. Approximately 600
bombs, rockets and artillery shells fired daily to pieces of
unexploded ammunition are alleged still to lie in Iraq.

* Infant mortality rate increased by 100 % between 1990 and
1992.

* Iraq's water supply was deliberately contaminated causing
severe hygiene problems and diseases.

Brief About Kuwait:

* In Kuwait City, 200 buildings including hotels, parliaments,
the National Museum, libraries, the Emir's palace, hospitals,
and government offices were set on fire.

* Kuwait paid US$22 billion to the allies for the war effort, in
addition to more than $1million paid tid to Hill & Knowlton, to
invent a lie to justify war.

Kuwaitis GDP fell from US$24.5 billion in 1989 to US$11.2
billion in 1991 as a result of the war, before rising to
US$21.74 billion in 1992.

The above shows that kicking Saddam and killing several thousand
Muslims was a profitable enterprise for US and UK.

When will the Muslims learn from such blunders and learn who is
their friend or foe?

As Salaamu Alaikum,

This is going to all the groups I moderate and participate in
daily discussions. It is time for us to continue the prayers,
write letters of protest and go to the streets to protest. We
have allowed others to do what we should be doing as Muslims
making a lot of noise about the war with Iraq. Don't let the
fancy double talk fool you. A lot of civilians will get hurt.
A lot of our young people in the military will be hurt for
almost no reason. We need better leadership than what we have
and only we can bring that about. We must become more political
minded and aware.

May Allah assist the people of Iraq and end this conflict now.

Firstly, let's just forget all the elaborate word's and
sentences and
remember the main aim is to help people understand a topic.
Intellect is not
shown through your own opinion on a matter or subject but
through sensible
reasoning.

Instead of biting off each other's head's just think about the
good that can
come out of silence. Why are so many young muslim's wasting
their time on
people who have decided they dont want to learn. Why not create
a web site
where people only visit because they WANT to learn.

Ok so mr Tukman has a problem with women in islam wearing
hijjab? How many
time's have you tried to put some sense in to him....did it
work?...Just
remember there are people out there who need dawah. and there
are some who
just like arguing. Instead of going on the net why not give
dawah to the
locality?...make your home an islamic state before you can make
the world
one. Never dream without putting in the effort.

The simple fact is that people who like to show off their bodies
are not
helping the world at all...the world need's educated people. Not
sportsmen
or athelete's. I am not being biased as i myself love sport a
lot. But i
have the intellect to at least know that if we want to help the
world and
help the ummah then we should be studying right now instead of
wasting time.

Why are so many nation's puppet's of america?...because we are
not as
advanced. Muslim's have the dedication and will power but not
the
technology. We see many youth's shouting slogan's and going to
demonstaration's. But instead if we quietly studied at home to
help portray
the view of the muslim's through media this would be the best
jihad.

America and uk have covered all of the media...they help to
decideon your
behalf. without realising it you by wtching cnn are contributing
toward's
the war on innocent people not just muslim's. Islam teches mercy
for all not
just your own fellow muslim's.

If all the muslim's in the world had degrees and money they
could put up a
muslim news and information channel. America is using media to
propaget thei
veiw's. How many muslim's are doing the same? NOne. There are
hardly any
muslim's on the media. There are hardly any muslim role model's
to be heard
of. The prophet was told to "read in the name of your lord". but
the youth
are exactly the opposite.

Shaitan loves to waste your time...and he alway's make's you
think you are
doing good. Why is it that the majority of youth will take
hour's in front
of the mirror each morning and not in front of a book?...How
many muslim's
are buying playstation game's and not book's? Islam need's good
representative's...not thug's fighting in the name of islam. The
reason why
the muslim's are being treated in such a harsh way today is our
own self to
blame. because we forget allah and shaitan remember's us. How
many time's a
day do we think people will laugh at me if i sit on the floor
and eat?...
Just remember we will all grow old and pride, strength and
beauty never
last's for ever. So just kill the little pride that we have.

I am not perfect but each day i read through my e-mail's and
what do i see?
Argument's and wild goose chases.Half baked muslim's, If people
find the
hijjab hillarious then question your selves why?...because the
ummah does
not feel proud to wear it. If you don't feel good about your
self no one
else will about you.

The kuffar's feel good doing their own dirty activities and what
happen's?...the world praises them. because they are proud to
follow satan.
How many muslim's watch MTV award's and movie Award's too?...we
watch
useless movies and drama's. these are just a few way's we loose
gip of the
rope of islam.

We go to football matches and join hooliganism...this is not
islamic. This
is western corrupt culture. Football youth's only cause harm to
the worl'd
as they have no sports man ship due to lack of moprals. When
their team
looses they cause violence. But the funniest thing is that they
only watched
the match and the team's are relaxing in the changing room's.
This is the
intellect of the western society.

Islam teaches that loss is from allah and that make's people
HUMANE.
Drinking beer harm's your health and kill's many people. is this
HUMANE?
smoking is encouraged HUMANE? Raping is caused by showing sexual
material No
this is not a HUMANE soiciety

The hijjab show's modesty and self CONTROL. It indicates that
the woman in
islam does not need to be so weak that she uncover's her head to
please the
world. The guy's will marry a woman to raise well mannered
children. Who
will grow up to helkp the world further. Instead her intellect
is her true
beauty because intellect last's longer than beauty. Clothes
should be to
cover's ones self not to reveal your bodies. in the western
society men
mainly marry for sexual pleasure and not to raise children.
However this is
the majority of non-religious families.but in the non-islamic
society today
'less is more'.

Religion has alway's encouraged good. and bought people
together. If people
think the world is a happier place without repligion then read
on.
Capitalism is caused by greed of wealth. without god people will
loose good
moral's. Such as charity, islam encourages charity. but in a
capitalist
society people want top keep their money to them selves. They
want to
acheive everything in their life. They want to look more
beautiful. But they
forget the need's of those who are poor. In a capitalist society
the rich
get richer and the poor get poorer. The poor then steal and
commit crimes.
No body question's why people steal. As they are too selfish to
reason. Some
people steal to have what they desire and some to fulfil their
necessity.

In islam if a person steal's through neccessity then it is the
fault of the
society for being selfish.

As far as Mr turkman said that wearing the hijjab was centuries
ago?...people were naked when the world first started...so this
contradict's
your opinion. As far as you said it is uncovering which is
backward's and
prehistoric. How I wish I had more time to waste. But right now
the world
need's help...not selfishness. make-up is for the ugly to make
them seem
beautiful. If you feel you need make-up to make you look
attractive then you
are not attractive. The first thing 90% of the corrupt society
look at is
the body and facial appearance.

Islam encourages looking clean and pleasing, but not sexually
attracting
other's intentionally. many husband's in the west leave their
wives and look
for more beautiful women and the same with women. This is why
many
Non-islamic marriages are destroyed. When you turn on the Tv you
just see
drinking, clubbing, and family problem's. Islam does not need
jerry springer
to guide people's lives. Islam is perfect even if the muslim's
are not.

If you really think you are intellectual than conserve your
youth...and work
for your future. Study is the key to success. shaitan will tell
you it's
normal to drink and have illegal sexual intercourse...but when
you are older
you will never be able to get back the time you waste now. I am
only 17 but
alhmdulillah I have had the habit to reason everything. Study
islam and look
at the world again.

US chides Belgium over rights law

Washington has berated Brussels after several Iraqi
families announced they were suing former US President
George Bush and other US politicians for human rights
violations in a Belgian court.

Families of those who died in the US attack on the
Amiriyah air raid shelter in Baghdad, which took place
in the 1991 Gulf War, are to file a case against the
former president under a law enabling Belgian courts
to hear human rights cases.

Belgium's "universal competence" legislation allows
proceedings against people accused of war crimes,
crimes against humanity or genocide, regardless of
their nationality or location.

"We have cautioned our Belgian colleagues that they
need to be very careful about this kind of effort,
this kind of legislation, because it makes it hard for
us to go places that put you at such easy risk," said
US Secretary of State Colin Powell.

"If you show up, next thing you know you're being...
Who knows?"

Mr Powell is accused, along with Vice President Dick
Cheney, former US army commander Norman Schwarzkopf
and former president George Bush snr.

Sharon case

More than 400 people died in the Amiriyah attack, when
US planes attacked the shelter.

The US says it was a military command centre, and that
it did not know it was being used to shelter
civilians.

Mr Powell claimed another case is already being
prepared in relation to the current Gulf conflict
against President Bush and his defence secretary
Donald Rumsfeld "even before anything has happened".

The most prominent case so far under the Belgian law
is a complaint against the Israeli prime minister,
Ariel Sharon, for his role in the massacre of
Palestinians in Beirut in 1982.

The case has been temporarily suspended while Mr
Sharon has immunity from prosecution as prime
minister, but has severely strained relations between
Belgium and Israel.

Question #1514: Reading Quran for a Deceased Person

Question:

Is setting a date to meet and read the entire Qur aan for a
deceased person and
to pray for him, and doing this every year a bid ah.?

Answer:

Praise be to Allaah.

There is no indication in either the Qur aan or the Sunnah that
would prescribe
the actions described in the question. Based on this fact, these
actions are
bid ah (a reprehensible innovation) which is not permitted; we
should avoid it
and warn others not to do it. The Messenger of Allaah (Peace &
Blessings of
Allaah be upon Him) used to say in his khutbahs (sermons): "The
truest of speech
is the Book of Allaah, the best guidance is that of Muhammad and
the worst of
things are those which are newly invented. Every newly-invented
thing is a
bid ah, every bid ah is a going astray, and every going astray
will end in the
Fire of Hell." (Reported by al-Nisaa i, may Allaah have mercy on
him, in
al-Sunan, Kitaab salaat al- eidayn, no. 1560).

It is permissible to pray for the deceased, without arranging a
formal
gathering, and without setting a specific date for doing so. We
ask Allaah to
help us and you to do that which He loves and which will please
Him. Allaah
knows best.

Question #9304: Ruling on reciting al-Faatihah for the deceased

Question:

What is the ruling on reciting al-Faatihah and giving the reward
for it to the
deceased?

Answer:

Praise be to Allaah.

There is no evidence (daleel) for reciting al-Faatihah or any
other part of the
Qur aan and giving (the reward for) it to the deceased. We must
not do that,
because it was not narrated that the Prophet (peace and
blessings of Allaah be
upon him) or his companions (may Allaah be pleased with them)
did any such
thing. It is prescribed to make du aa for the dead Muslims and
to give charity
on their behalf by giving to the poor and needy. In this way a
person may draw
closer to Allaah and ask Him to give the reward for that to his
father, mother
or other people, deceased or alive. The Prophet (peace and
blessings of Allaah
be upon him) said: When a man dies, all his deeds come to a
halt apart from
three: ongoing charity (sadaqah jaariyah), beneficial knowledge
or a righteous
child who will pray for him.

And it was reported that a man said to the Prophet (peace and
blessings of
Allaah be upon him): O Messenger of Allaah, my mother has died
and she did not
make a will. I think that if she had spoken she would have given
in charity.
Will she be rewarded if I give in charity on her behalf? He
said, Yes.
(Saheeh agreed upon)

The same applies to Hajj and umrah on behalf of the deceased
and paying off his
debts. All of these actions will benefit him, as was narrated in
the shar i
daleel (evidence). But if the questioner is referring to
treating the family of
the deceased person kindly by giving them money or meat (i.e.,
food), there is
nothing wrong with that if they are poor.

Question #12552: The forty-day anniversary is a Pharaonic custom

Question:

What is the origin of the forty-day anniversary? Is there any
evidence that
eulogizing is acceptable in Islam?

Answer:

Praise be to Allaah.

Firstly: the origin of this is a Pharaonic custom which was
practised by the
Pharaohs before Islam, then it spread from them to other
nations. It is a
reprehensible innovation (bid ah) which has no basis in Islam,
and it is be
rejected as the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon
him) said:
Whoever innovates anything in this matter of ours (Islam) which
is not a part
of it, will have it rejected. (Saheeh agreed upon).

Secondly: commemorating and eulogizing the dead in the manner
that is done
nowadays, when people gather for that purpose and exaggerate in
praising the
deceased is not permitted. It was narrated by Ahmad and Ibn
Maajah, and classed
as saheeh by al-Haakim, that Abd-Allaah ibn Abi Awfaa
said: The Messenger of
Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) forbade
eulogizing. (And it
is not permitted) because mentioning the attributes of the
deceased usually
involves boasting and provokes sorrow and grief. But simply
speaking well of him
when he is mentioned or when his funeral passes by, or
mentioning his good deeds
and so on, in a manner similar to the way in which the Sahaabah
eulogized those
who were killed at Uhud and others, is permissible. It was
narrated that Anas
ibn Maalik (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: A funeral
passed by and they
spoke well of the deceased. The Prophet (peace and blessings of
Allaah be upon
him) said, He deserved it. Then another funeral passed by and
they spoke ill
of the deceased. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be
upon him) said,
He deserved it. Umar (may Allaah be pleased with him)
said, What did they
deserve? He (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him)
said, The first one
you spoke well of, and he deserved Paradise, and the second one
you spoke ill
of, and he deserved Hell. You are the witnesses of Allaah on
earth. (Narrated
by al-Bukhaari and Muslim).

Question #5871: Bidaa'h of gathering after fourty days to pray
for the deceased

Question:

In the indo Pak bangladesh subcontinent, there is something in
the culture where
if any Muslim dies then after 40 days we observe a day of
supplication and
rememberance of that person. My father recently died ( XXXX) so
I would like to
know the islamic ruling on these kind of observences?

Answer:

Praise be to Allaah.

What happens in some Muslim countries where the friends and
relatives of the
deceased gather after 40 days to read Qur aan, make du aa for
him and remember
him is undoubtedly bid ah (reprehensible innovation) for which
no authority
has been revealed by Allaah. It is not permissible to take part
in or attend
such gatherings. We have to speak out against such practices.
The Muslim should
pray for his brother at all times, not only for three days after
his death, or
forty days or one year later, etc. It should be known that this
is a custom of
the Kuffaar and it is not permissible for us to imitate them.
May Allaah help us
to follow the Sunnah, and may He bless our Prophet Muhammad.

Question #9965: Gathering in the house of the deceased and
offering a collective
du aa for him

Question:

when some one dies...families go round to the deceased houses
and sit with there
families and make a collective dua..is this permissable? and in
the masjid they
hold a 'khutam'...is this allowed?

Answer:

Praise be to Allaah.

Among the fatwas issued by the Standing Committee for Issuing
Fatwas is the
following:

We do not know of any evidence (daleel) from either the Qur aan
or Sunnah to
indicate that it is prescribed to recite any soorah of the
Qur aan in any place,
or in the house of the deceased. We do not know of anyone among
the Sahaabah or
Taabi een or Taabi ee al-Taabi een [i.e., the first three
generations of Islam]
from whom it is reported that he did that. The basic principle
is that this is
not allowed, because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah
be upon him)
said: Whoever does any action that is not in accordance with
this matter of
ours [i.e., Islam], will have it rejected. (Narrated by Muslim,
al-Aqdiyah,
3243). With regard to gathering and making du aa for him,
du aa is an act of
worship, and acts of worship are based on the principle of
tawqeef [i.e., to be
based solely on the saheeh texts, with no room for adding or
taking away
anything]. It is not reported that the Prophet (peace and
blessings of Allaah be
upon him) made du aa with his companions for any deceased
person after he had
completed the (funeral) prayer. It was reported that he used to
stand by the
grave after the ground had been levelled over its occupant and
say, Pray for
forgiveness for your brother, for he is being questioned now.
From the above we
know that the correct thing is not to offer a collective du aa
after offering
the funeral prayer, and that this is bid ah.

Fataawa al-Lajnah al-Daa imah, 9/16

So pray for your deceased each one of you individually. It is OK
to make du aa
for him during salaah and at other times, at the times when
du aa s are
answered, such as the last third of the night, the last hour
of Asr, Fridays,
between the adhaan and iqaamah, etc. You should be sincere in
your du aa . When
the du aa is only between you and Allaah, you will feel more
khushoo and will
feel more sincere than when you make du aa simply to please
others, as when
people recite du aa collectively to please the family of the
deceased. May
Allaah help us and you to do all that is good.

Question #2253: Holding khatam gatherings in the mosque to
recite Soorat
Ya-Seen for the dead is bid ah

Question:

regarding answer 2226:
I see in my mosque something called a 'khutm' where the people
get together and
recite sura yasin (36) saying that helps the dead or something
similar. Is there
any daleel in support of this? wa salam.

Answer:

Praise be to Allaah.

There is no saheeh evidence (daleel) to indicate that this
practice is
prescribed in sharee ah. Therefore it is an act of bi dah
(innovation) which we
should avoid, warn others against and not take part in. We
should adhere to the
sunnah, which contains sufficient alternatives to all the
innovated practices.
The hadeeth Recite Yaa-Seen for your dead is a da eef (weak)
hadeeth. See

Question #734: Ruling on reading Soorat Yaa-Seen for the dying
and the deceased

Question:

Asslamua Alylum, In my culture people read sura Yaseen in groups
before and
after people die. I would like to know if whether this is based
on suna or an
innovation?

Answer:

Praise be to Allaah.

We have to make a distinction here between the two issues:
reading Yaa-Seen for
one who is dying, and reading it for one who has died. With
regard to reading
Yaa-Seen for one who is dying, this practice has been reported
from some of the
Sahaabah. Imaam Ahmad reported in his Musnad from Safwaan: My
shaykhs told me
that they were with Ghudayf ibn al-Haarith al-Thumaani when he
was dying. He
said: Can any of you read Yaa-Seen? So Saalih ibn Shurayh al-
Sakooni recited
it, and when he reached the fortieth aayah, Ghudayf passed away.
My shaykhs used
to say that when it is recited in the presence of one who is
dying, it eases the
pain of death. That was the opinion of Safwaan. Eesaa ibn al-
Mu tamir read it
for Ibn Mab ad (when the latter was dying). (al-Musnad, 16355)

Al-Albaani said in Irwaa al-Ghaleel, 3/152: This is a saheeh
sanad going back
to Ghudayf ibn al-Haarith, may Allaah be pleased with him. Its
men are thiqaat
apart from the shaykhs who are not named and are therefore
unknown (majhool).
But the fact that they are unknown is compensated for by their
large number,
especially since they are of the generation of the Taabi een

Shaykh Ibn Uthaymeen said in al-Sharh al-Mumti fi Ahkaam al-
Janaa iz: Soorat
Yaa-Seen may be recited over him (i.e., the one who is dying)
for the one who
thinks that the hadeeth is correct. He explained that this is
because this
soorah contains good news of Paradise, as in the aayah
(interpretation of the
meaning): It was said: Enter Paradise. [Yaa-Seen 36:26],
and because it
makes the passage of the soul easier, and other reasons.

As regards reading Soorat Yaa-Seen for one who has died, there
is no saheeh
hadeeth to indicate that this should be done. A hadeeth was
narrated by Abu
Dawood and others which says Read Yaa-Seen over your dead , but
this hadeeth is
not saheeh because its isnaad contains contradictions and
narrators who are
unknown (majhool). This was stated by al- Allaamah al-Albaani in
Irwaa
al-Ghaleel, hadeeth no. 688. Reading Qur aan over the dead is
considered to be
bid ah (innovation), as he states at the end of his book Ahkaam
al-Janaa iz.
Some people think that it should be read forty times over the
deceased, and some
of them may distribute copies of the Qur aan among the mourners
who gather to
offer condolences so that they may read, or organize gatherings
in the mosque to
read it for the soul of the deceased. All of this has no basis
whatsoever (in
the sunnah), and these are innovated deeds of bid ah which we
should avoid and

Question #9979: Ruling on reading Qur aan over the grave of a
dead person

Question:

Some people in our village bring together some shaykhs who know
how to read
Qur aan well, and they read Qur aan on the grounds that this
Qur aan will
benefit the deceased and bring mercy to him. Some others invite
one or two
shaykhs to read at the grave of a particular person, and others
organize big
gatherings where they invite one of the famous readers to read
over
loudspeakers, to commemorate the anniversary of a loved one s
death. What is the
Islamic ruling on that? Does reading Qur aan at the graveside or
elsewhere
benefit the deceased? What is the best way to benefit the dead?
Please advise
us, may Allaah reward you greatly on our behalf, and we thank
you very much.

Answer:

Praise be to Allaah.

This action is bid ah (reprehensible innovation) and is not
permissible, because
the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him)
said, Whoever innovates
anything in this matter of ours (i.e., Islam) that is not a part
of it, will
have it rejected. (Saheeh agreed upon). And he (peace and
blessings of Allaah
be upon him) said: Whoever does anything that is not a part of
this matter of
ours (i.e., Islam) will have it rejected. (Narrated by Muslim
in his Saheeh).
And there are many similar ahaadeeth.

It is not the Sunnah of the Prophet (peace and blessings of
Allaah be upon him)
or the way of his rightly-guided successors (the Khulafaa al-
Raashideen may
Allaah be pleased with them) to read Qur aan over graves or to
have gatherings
to commemorate the anniversary of a person s death. All goodness
is to be found
in following the Messenger (peace and blessings of Allaah be
upon him) and his
rightly-guided successors, and those who followed their path, as
Allaah says
(interpretation of the meaning):

And the foremost to embrace Islam of the Muhaajiroon and the
Ansaar and also
those who followed them exactly (in Faith). Allaah is well-
pleased with them as
they are well-pleased with Him. He has prepared for them Gardens
under which
rivers flow (Paradise), to dwell therein forever. That is the
supreme success
[al-Tawbah 9:100]

And the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him)
said: I urge you to
adhere to my way (Sunnah) and the way of the rightly-guided
Khulafaa who come
after me. Adhere to it and bite onto it with your eyeteeth (i.e.
cling firmly to
it). Beware of newly-invented matters, for every newly-invented
matter is an
innovation and every innovation is a going-astray. And it was
reported in a
saheeh hadeeth that he (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon
him) said in a
Friday khutbah: The best of speech is the Book of Allaah and
the best of
guidance is the guidance of Muhammad (peace and blessings of
Allaah be upon
him). The most evil of things are those which are newly-
invented, and every
innovation is a going-astray. And there are many similar
ahaadeeth.

According to the saheeh ahaadeeth, the Prophet (peace and
blessings of Allaah be
upon him) explained the things that will benefit the Muslim
after he dies. He
(peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: When a man
dies, all his good
deeds come to a halt, apart from three: ongoing charity (sadaqah
jaariyah);
beneficial knowledge; or a righteous child who will pray for
him. (Narrated by
Muslim in his Saheeh). A man asked the Prophet (peace and
blessings of Allaah be
upon him), O Messenger of Allaah, is there anything that I can
do to continue
honouring my parents after they die? He (peace and blessings of
Allaah be upon
him) said: Yes: pray for them, ask for forgiveness for them,
fulfil their last
wishes (wasiyah or will), honour their friends and uphold the
ties of kinship
which you would not have were it not for them. The last wishes
(wasiyah or
will) expressed by the person before he or she died should be
fulfilled so long
as they are in accordance with sharee ah. Other ways of
honouring one s parents
is to give in charity on their behalf, to make du aa for them
and to perform
Hajj and Umrah on their behalf. And Allaah is the Source of
strength.

Question #14285: Ruling on reading Qur aan at the graveside and
putting roses
and fragrant herbs on the grave

Question:

We see some people reciting Qur aan at the grave of their
deceased loved one
when they visit, and others putting some roses and fragrant
herbs on the grave.
What is the ruling on that?

Answer:

Praise be to Allaah.

With regard to reciting Qur aan when visiting the grave, this is
something which
has no basis in the Sunnah.

It is not prescribed in Islam, and the fact that it is not
prescribed is
supported by the hadeeth of the Prophet (peace and blessings of
Allaah be upon
him): Do not make your houses into graveyards, for the Shaytaan
flees from a
house in which Soorat al-Baqarah is recited. This was narrated
by Muslim and
al-Tirmidhi from the hadeeth of Abu Hurayrah. This indicates
that graves are not
the place for reading Qur aan, hence the Prophet (peace and
blessings of Allaah
be upon him) encouraged reading Qur aan in our houses and told
us not to make
them like graveyards where it is not read. Another hadeeth
indicates that they
(graveyards) are not the place for prayer (salaah) either. The
Prophet (peace
and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: Pray in your houses
and do not make
them like graves. This was narrated by Muslim and others from
Ibn Umar. A
similar report was narrated by al-Bukhaari, who included it in a
chapter
entitled Baab Karaahat al-Salaah fi l-Maqaabir (Chapter on it
being disliked to
pray in graveyards); thus he indicated that the hadeeth of
Ibn Umar could be
understood to mean that it is makrooh to pray in graveyards.
Similarly the
hadeeth of Abu Hurayrah may be understood to mean that it is
makrooh to read
Qur aan in graveyards. There is no difference between praying
and reading
Qur aan in this regard. Abu Dawood said in his Masaa il (p.
158): I heard
Ahmad being asked about reading Qur aan at the graveside. He
said, No [that
should not be done].

It is not prescribed in Islam to put aas leaves (a kind of
tree) or fragrant
herbs or roses on the grave, because this is not what the salaf
did, and if it
was good, they would have done it before us. Ibn Umar (may
Allaah be pleased
with them both) said: Every bid ah (innovation) is a going
astray, even if the
people think it is good. (Narrated by Ibn Battah in al-
Ibaanah an Usool
al-Diyaanah, 2/112; al-Laakaa i in al-Sunnah, 1/21, a mawqoof
report with a
saheeh isnaad).

We ask Allaah to bestow mercy upon the deceased Muslims. May
Allaah bless our
Prophet Muhammad.

Salamu alaikum, al'humdolillah, we know better through the
Quran-Majeed,
that "Fighting is ordained for you though you may dislike it, -
 - - - -"(al'Baqarah 2:216).
Read on - see how the greedy aggressors fabricate excuses to
wage war.
                Windbags of War
by Gene Callahan

Initiating war is a particularly stupid form of human activity,
and the onset of the war that will start tonight at 8 pm is
bringing out the dunce in many. I'm not sure if these will
alleviate or increase your depression at the thought of war, but
here are a few choice ideas circulating right now:

One well-known libertarian sent out an e-mail saying, "As our
men go off to war, the time for criticism ends." Well, there you
have it. It's one thing to criticize a mugger before he takes
your wallet, but, once he's in the act, it would be impolite to
continue. And if you had known about the terrorist plot of
September 11th, it would have been fine to try and talk the
terrorists out of it while they were in the planning stages. But
once they had actually hijacked the planes, it would be quite
gauche to keep badgering them.

I've read several people asserting that the ease with which the
US and its minions will win the war will "shut up" those who
worked for peace. The moral principle involved seems to be that
no action can be wrong if it is successful. By this criterion,
Germany was fully justified in invading Poland in 1939, since it
won so quickly. Barroom bullies are vindicated as long as they
beat the fellow they picked on with little fuss.

I saw a TV report that one UK official claimed that if not for
France's intransigence, war could have been prevented. So, it's
not the countries that are advocating war and massing troops
around Iraq that are responsible, it's a country resisting the
push to war. I suppose that makes sense: Imagine three men who
have met a woman alone in a dark alley. Two of them threaten to
rape her, but one refuses to cooperate. The two aggressors tell
the third man, "It's your fault that we have to rape her. If
only we had presented a united front, she would have given up
hope and submitted voluntarily."

Also on TV was Bush saying that the US did nothing to provoke
Iraq's aggression. Um, what aggression? Does he mean the way
Iraq's land has kept blowing up US bombs over the last decade?
Or maybe the way Iraqi children have continually tried to
embarrass the US by up and starving to death?

However, the topper of them all is word from CBS News Radio that
Bush's "ultimatum" to Saddam Hussein is meaningless. When asked
whether Hussein's abdication would halt an invasion, an
administration official replied that the invasion would proceed
regardless. In other words:

Bush: If you don't go into exile, we'll invade your country.
Hussein: And if I do go into exile?
Bush: Well, in that case, we'll invade your country.
