laying willy-nilly about a residence, number one. They ARE to be 
stored, unloaded, in a quality gun safe with trigger locks on

Man Shot Dead over Heaven and Hell Argument

GODLEY, Texas (Reuters) - An argument over who was going to 
heaven and who was going to hell ended with one Texas man 
shooting another to death with a shotgun, police said on Monday. 

Johnny Joslin, 20 was allegedly shot by Clayton Frank Stoker, 
21, on Sunday. The two had spent Saturday with two other men 
night bar hopping in Fort Worth, about 40 miles northeast of 
Godley. 

Johnson County Sheriff Bob Alford said a witness who was the 
designated driver for the group told police the four men were 
sitting at a table outside a trailer park after their night on 
the town and entered into an argument about religion. The talk 
became heated when the subject turned to who would go to heaven 
and who would go to hell. 

Stoker said he would settle the argument and went into a house 
and returned with a shotgun, which he loaded and placed in his 
mouth, Alford said the witness reported. 

"The victim Joslin then took the gun out of Stokers mouth, 
saying, 'If you have to shoot somebody, shoot me,'" Alford said, 
citing the witness report. (my immaginative comment)> At this 
point Stoker said "SOMEBODY, HOLD MUH BEER"!

The shotgun went off, hitting Joslin in the chest and killing 
him. 

Stoker, a Johnson County corrections officer, has been arrested 
and charged with first-degree murder, Alford said.

However, on the issue of the constitution... Whenever on of our 
our governments breaks the constitution, the High Court of 
Australia has the authority to set things straight (and have 
done so on many occasions)... I'm not sure, but I think I can 
understand your fear of your own governments - GW Bush has 
already breeched the US constitution a number of times already 
without being corrected and even the oath of alligiance may be a

Christians are killing each other in Ireland. Hence the 
hypocrisy of christianity. United we stand, divided we fall, and 
christianity has got to be the most divided of all. That 
includes Islam and Judaeism, since they basically worship the 
same icon and have the same roots.

I shall lump all the religious together in my tight pigeonhole 
everytime I see footage of the twin towers collapsing. Fine, you 
can call me hate-filled, but I still have enough space for love 
of my family and the will to protect them from people who would 
ram their beliefs down their throats. This may not be you in 
particular, but in my experience, there sure is a lot of people 
out there who do this and think it's the right thing to do.

And do you think that these "religious" terrorists truly 
represent God, or do you allow for the possibility that 
Christianity is NOT hypocritical?  Somehow I cannot envision 
Jesus or Muhammed shooting people or blowing them up.  
  Might it be that some so-called Christians and Muslims are 
hypocrites, and that the religions are themselves essentially 
based on the concept of spiritual growth?  Or did you just want 
to take pot shots at religion?        

I'm sure these "hypocrites" thought that they were on the level. 
Of course religious texts are always open to interpretation, 
considering the many contradictions within them. You can pretty 
well justify all sorts of behaviour in the name of your favorite 
diety.

I've made it clear that I don't hold religion in high esteem. If 
some repeatable proof could be provided as to the validity of 
theology, then I would reevaluate my view (although perhaps not 
my feelings). If you want to simplify that into 'pot shots', go 
right ahead.

In any case, I am skeptical of the benefits of religion for 
humanity. In my opinion, it removes individual and community 
responsibility and places it in the hands of something mythical.

Christians who kill each other out of hate have strayed from the 
teachings of Jesus. If you love your family then please open 
their eyes to the glory of God. Read the new Testament and 
Jesus's teachings can help you live a better life.

I have had to change my "tag" as someone else is calling 
themself Isaac Asimov and mine was the original reference 
to 'Zak. O.K. that's the way these notice boards work.

To cut to the chase --- the problem is not the hypocricy or 
otherwise of christians per se, it is the primitive nature of 
their beliefs. The same can easily said for most other 
religions, or in fact ANY system that relies on DOGMA to uphold 
it's credibility.

In any case, people should be allowed to follow whatever they so 
choose, as long as they do not seek to impose their views on 
others. One of the problems with fundamentalists is they ALWAYS 
seek to impose their views on others (and by that I mean 
fundamentalists from all religions).

The other problem with fundamentalists is their almost comlete 
ignorance of any facts outside the few they know.

Really speaking, religion is one of the most obvious signs that 
humanity has not yet "grown up" (other signs include the 
prevalence of violence, flag waving, unthinking nationalism and 
Marketing).

I suppose this note will bring about another wave of insults 
and "Jesus loves you"s. I keep hoping someone will put forward a 
rational argument, but I am not holding my breath.

Regarding the teachings of Jesus... what about all the other 
religions in the world. Who is right? Likely none of them. I'm 
not interested in the teachings of people whose existence is 
dubious. There is far more important things in life fighting for

read fairy tales with good morals to their children. The Bible 
is no fairy tale(even though some of you think so), but great 
things are brought across in it. In my life THE good book can 
make it better, at least I know that God loves us. By the way,

book contains a germ of wisdom. This, however, does not 
necessarily make it a good book. In the end, it is up to

Clearly you think that christians have cornered the market on 
love for fellow man. Au contraire, most athiests I know have

I am a not very religeous person, but as an American citizen 
cannot stake a claim to complete neutrality on this issue. That 
said, I see Islam as COMPLETELY INTOLERANT of other religions as 
well as fence-sitters and athiests. All are kuffers to them and 
not worthy of living. A dedicated Muslim would not even respond 
in a religious debate. The Quaran instructs not to debate 
beliefs, to walk away from the non-believer. This is the 
peacefull version of Islam. In many strict Islamically ruled 
country's the choices are conversion, prison or death. In 
Pakistan a wisecrack joke about the Prophet Mo-ham-head, if 
reported, will land your butt in jail. And Islamic courts will 
not laugh. Where as, here in majority Christian America half the 
population says "Jesus Christ" (sometimes with a slang term for 
sexual intercourse between the Jesus and the Christ)when angery 
with no fear of arrest. I see the Christian religion as far more 
tolerant than Islam (excluding the pain-in-the-ass, door 
knocking, Jehova Witnesses).

I'm sure you have heard the story about the girl who hid in the 
library when a gunman entered. He found her pointed the gun at 
her, and asked "do you believe in God?" she said yes and was 
killed. I am not intolerant at all. From what I have read, 
neither is misshs15. I don't want you to stop raising questions. 
I still ask my priest lots of questions. Om/cf was right in 
saying that Christians are more tolerant than many Muslims. I am 
a Catholic, but I go to Orthodox churches, and even recieve 
communion there. Most Christians who follow a non-protestant

God wants love not sacrifice. To be a good Christian doesn't 
mean you must live on the street. Lots of priests and monks take 
vows of poverty in addition to all the services they give God 
and his people. I believe that vows of poverty are usually signs 
of being humble to God. I fail to see any hypocracy, I am not 
the government of the United States. You need to elaborate. If 
you do not believe in God, then how did the Universe, this 
earth, and all that is on it come to be? did they just appear?

America is not a Christian country, by any means. Freedom of 
religious choice is here, its happening every day. Not freedom

part of the world has established mosques, temples, mudd huts

thinks about it, how all these different religions co-exist in 
America with very little violence against each other is amazing!

I prefer to borrow and steal things from all that make sense to 
me regarding religion. American Indian (pre-Christian) beliefs 
take more than humans into account, this Earth and that sky we 
look into every day will survive the human race. The "end of the 
world" only means the end of man.

I think instead of asking if you believe in God, the real 
question is: Have you ever thought about God? I'll bet my

hospitol, has at least considered the possibility of a Great

god, I've put in on the unlikely pile. If someone can come up 
with good evidence to suggest that god exists, then I'll re-

quoting texts does not prove a point, unless it suggests methods 
for providing proof of its assertions).

Until then, I seriously doubt the existence of one or many diety

  But for those of us who believe that there is more to existence 
than physical properties and laws, i.e. spirituality, what 
becomes the focus of importance is faith.  The funny thing about 
those who go so far asto laugh at the potential existence of God 
is that they demand proof that He exists, while ignoring the fact 
that such proof would negate any purpose for faith.  
  Yet spirituality is all about faith.  Spirituality isn't 
limited to control vs. experimental groups, to controlling 
confounding variables, and ultimately avering with 95% or greater 
certainty that God exists.

  Beyond science (the attempt to explain all things physical -how

imagination. Do you think I am a computer? No, I have an 
imagination, but keep it within my head. I am human, and are not

naturally I think that my beliefs are 'superior', otherwise I 
wouldn't adopt them (call it bias).

From my point of view, faith comes from the same area in the 
psyche where you can suspend disbelief. I use it all the time 
when reading a good novel. But I try not to let it define my 
actions. When dealing with the outside world, I let what I can 
see guide me (with the exception of interpersonal relationships 
of course).

As for applying confidence intervals and other statistical 
methods to things that broad, I would never bother. That doesn't 
mean I can't make judgement by proportion, which is arbitrary to 
an extent, but is better than nothing.

I didn't actually say that it was childish to believe the bible 
(although I admit I often think that), even though *another* 
poster quoted Isaac Asimov earlier on saying this. I adopted the 
name later on, and apologised to 'Liberace' for stealing it. My 
response was to show that what I believe may not be as childish

You know very little about science, if that is your opinion of 
it. Of course it doesn't have all the answers. If it did, all 
the scientists would be out of the job. It is about finding 
truths, not inventing them. Just because something 
provides 'answers' doesn't mean they are correct, you need to 
test the answers and not just believe them unquestioningly.

As for scentific theories on creation, many have been put 
forward, some calling for a creator and some not (when was the 
creator created?). And by the way, there are many religious 
texts concerning creation, not just one. Please do us a favor
